fireplace tip

For those of you building a new home (with fireplace option) I would suggest requesting the thermostat not be directly across the room from it.  We are now learning that when our fireplace is burning our heater does not ever cycle on because the great room is too warm.  Therefore we cannot really use the fireplace during the day when the kids are playing elsewhere and it's cold outside because they get too cold.  We are asking the PM if we can move the thermostat into the hallway to help with this issue.  Still waiting for a reply.

  1. As a temporary solution you could turn up the tempature setting so that the heat will turn on.. Example: if the thermostat is set to 70 and the head does not turn on.. then set it to 75, 77, 80, etc until it does.

  2. We are building a palermo. Just curious how did you place your tv with the fireplace? Good suggestion about the thermostat, I will mention that to our PM.

  3. We put the tv on the wall where the office is. We decided not to put it above the fireplace because it would be too high for our taste. It worked out nicely with a sectional on the wall across from the fireplace.

The PM is still talking to the HVAC people about moving the thermostat. He says that they claim it can only be placed above the return vent and because the return vent is already in an awkward place it might not work to move it but he thinks the hall would be close enough. If it does not get moved we will probably put the basement area on a separate zone on our own dime at some point.

Good luck with the build. Wishing you a very smooth and happy construction.

  4. I am worried about the height as well and because of that we put another cable connection on the office wall in case it doesn't work for us. Thanks for getting back so quickly and I will definitely bring up the thermostat and return vent to our PM.

  5. Hi there! We too built a Palermo Elevation A and love it! Do you have any pictures of your foyer layout looking at it from the kitchen? Our door placement seems a little off and I'm trying to compare it with people who have the same elevation. Thanks in advance!

  6. We are building a Palermo this spring and I am uncertain on the crown molding packages. Was the upstairs crown molding part of the package or was that a non-standard request?

  7. In our community the crown molding package included all the crown molding in the common areas (upstairs and down) as well as the moldings around the entryways on the main floor. It was well worth the upgrade. Makes everything look much more finished. It also included chair rail and crown molding for the dining room
